Speaker Núñez’ Statement on the “Justice for Our Families Now” Immigration Forum
LOS ANGELES – Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez (D-Los Angeles) today issued the following statement on the “Justice for Our Families Now” immigration forum that’s taking place Sunday, March 25:
“This Sunday, continuing to build the momentum we started one year ago, tens of thousands of Californians are coming together here at the Sports Arena to learn more about immigration reform and the citizenship process.
“The event is titled “Justice For Our Families Now” and I urge everyone who is interested to come to this event.
“States like California are disproportionately affected by immigration since we have such a large population of undocumented in our state.”
“We have hundreds of thousands of families that are looking forward to a comprehensive solution to immigration reform. Many of them are undocumented immigrants, but whether they come here legally or not, they are a contributing factor to California’s economy.
“This past week I was in Washington, DC to urge the need for comprehensive immigration reform. That’s why I was encouraged by the actions of a bipartisan group of Rouse members who yesterday unveiled an immigration overhaul bill and promised action before summer.
“Led by chief sponsors Luis V. Gutierrez, D-IL, and Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., this.is the kind of action we need to move forward and resolve this critical issue.
“As immigration reform legislation. is introduced and debated in.Congress, we urge them to safeguard the following values: reform must be comprehensive; it must provide a path to earned citizenship; it must reunite, families; and it must restore the rule of law and enhance security.
“Working together, and making sure all of our voices are heard, my hope is we can solve this problem in its entirety and do it all.in one effort.”
